The progressive left has constantly hailed Pope Francis as a shining champion of liberal values ever since he was made Pope, and many continue to deny that his total worldview and ethical values can differ from their own.
I have made numerous posts pointing out the ways in which he holds positions that are fundamentally contrary to what progressives think he believes. Just because a person has a genuinely commendable concern for the poor and various oppressed groups, that does not mean that his views on everything from homosexuality itself, to free speech, to evolution, are also in line with the views of progressive liberalism.
Now you can add his views on gender identity to that list.
According to numerous news outlets (I’ll cite RT for the following excerpt), Pope Francis voiced his criticisms of the notion that people can “choose” their gender or that there can be more than two genders:
Pope Francis has slammed “influential countries” for their “ideological colonization” of societies worldwide, particularly through teaching children they are free to choose their gender, something that the Catholic Church sees as a sin against nature and god.
Reflecting on the idea of gender identity freedom that is being promulgated across the globe, the 79-year-old pontiff termed such approach an “annihilation of man as an image of God.”
“Today, in schools they are teaching this to children – to children! – that everyone can choose their gender,” Francis said, calling such policies “ideological colonizing” supported and funded by “very influential countries.”
“Speaking with Pope Benedict, who is well, and has a clear mind, he was telling me: ‘Holiness, this is the epoch of sin against God the Creator.’ He’s intelligent! God created man and woman, God created the world this way, this way, this way, and we are doing the opposite,” Francis told the Polish bishops. “We must think about what Pope Benedict said – ‘It’s the epoch of sin against God the Creator.’”
(Note however, that although he uses harsh language he uses to condemn transgender ideas, he does not state or imply that transgender people should be harmed in any way)
These statements won’t come as a surprise to anyone who has been paying attention to Pope Francis’s past comments on social issues and who understands that he is still a devout Catholic mired in the indoctrinated teachings of this ideologically medieval organization.
This is just another example of his fundamentalist views that so many people are ignoring.
